Does my butt look fat in this? You won't be asking that question if you dressed for your body type...It seems some style lessons are never passe. In a world overdosed with style advice, you'd think everyone is a fashionista going about town. Not so much. A recently held event at fashion's first address-the DLF Emporio-saw many designer label dripping ladies clued in intently on some pretty commonplace fashion advice. After all it was a full blown tutorial on how to dress for your body type and how to dress for the occasion.
Now, while a lot of us know what's in and what's last season; it doesn't always translate into effortless chic. That became particularly evident at this classroom meets luncheon held for the W Factor Club ladies where stylist and director of Hirumchi Styling Compnay, Geeta Josie Khanna addressed a full house on styling tips. The women present were on top of their fashion game as far as their labels and trends were concerned, all looking like they walked right out of S/S 2010 catalogues of top designer labels; yet there was the dress that looked two sizes too small, the accessories that looked a bit out of place and shoes that screamed misplaced attention. Here's what these women learnt that day - How to dress for your body type and how to dress according to the time and place. Listen on, girls.
1 HOURGLASS SHAPE: This is most women and men's dream shape but alas not the easiest to get into most dresses. The idea should be not to squeeze into all styles but pick those that further accentuate your assets. Low cut v-neck jersey dresses, pencil skirts and lady like heels should be your style. Keep it feminine yet not too girlie. You've got a woman's curves so keep your dressing classic and old school.

2 SKINNY STRAIGHT: Just pair of heels and you're made for the runway. Draped dresses, extra layering, skinny jeans - there is so much you can choose from. Just don't fall for the predictable, pretty silhouette and experiment with your style.

3 BRICK SHAPE: You're pretty athletically built in the sense your weight is evenly distributed. So you need to use silhouettes that create shape or an illusion of it. Low waist jeans work well for you as long you team them up with casual tanks, feminine peasant blousons or bubble tops. You can also wear a straight tunic dress with a low slung belt to create waist. Always wear high heels to give you more height.

4 LOLLIPOP SHAPE: You are top heavy and narrow all the way down. Though, you can carry off pretty much anything, don't venture into polo necks and round neck tops. A low cut feminine wrap dress or a well cut drape dress will do you good. It will draw the focus away from your bust to your waist or hips.

5 APPLE SHAPE: Your are the most cuddle friendly shape so think cute and loose! It's also a body shape that isn't too easy to dress. Use straight silhouettes as far as possible, and nothing too body hugging. Stay away from pleats on your waist in both pants and skirts. Wear off-shoulder peasant tops but for the bottom stick to tapering, narrow trousers or straight, short skirts. Highlight your slender legs and ankles with peep toe shoes or sky high strappy heels.

6 PEAR SHAPED: You have to work your big bottom and slender waist to your advantage. The belted trench coat and shirt dress was invented for you! Narrow shoulders mean you can carry off the one-shoulder style well.
